“Unlocking potential, building capability”

People often ask – what is Finance Projects Management and when do I need a Finance Project Manager.

Finance projects generally fall into 3 groups:

Projects that implement a new or improve an existing finance system or process.

Building capability through Finance systems - Technology is a key enabler, and no-where in the Finance area is this more evident than in the core Finance systems. Periodically these will need upgrades, replacement, additional modules or new interfaces created to other operational systems. Manthorpe Grint understands the importance of systems that deliver for the business.

Commercial projects that involve the purchase or sale of part of the business or a business service.

Commercial projects. Buying and selling are core business activities. Manthorpe Grint has experience of procurement specification; preparation of business operations for sale, and supporting negotiations to achieve the targeted outcome.

Projects that target organisation performance improvement, impacting P&L, balance sheet or cash flow.

Performance improvement and process re-engineering. Every business wants greater efficiency and a healthier bottom line which requires a team approach and can seldom be achieved by Finance in isolation. Manthorpe Grint is accustomed to working across the entire organisation and at all levels.

The common denominators with all three is they require a level of technical finance input and have stakeholders from across the business.

A Finance Project Manager brings the technical finance expertise and combines that with a broad base of business experience and independent thinking to understand the targeted outcome and bring a variety of stakeholders (often with conflicting interests) together to design and deliver a solution.

A Finance Project Manager can substantially influence the quality of the project outcomes in any of these (and more) situations:

Implementation, upgrade or changes to any core financial or reporting system.

Finance Transformation, Shared Services or other change focused initiatives.

Business intelligence, management or operational reporting changes.

Delivering better financial outcomes by partnering with operational teams.

Integration of acquisitions or asset disposals.

Feasibility studies to understand the potential impact of specific initiatives or build business cases.

Procuring the services of a major supplier, or bidding for new business.

Process re-engineering.

If your organisation is involved with or considering any of the above, please give Manthorpe Grint a call and see how we can be of service.
